The Derry Salem Elks will hold a Jazz Night from 6:30-10 p.m. featuring the Nick Goumas Quartet and a prime rib dinner. There is a cost for the tickets. For more information, contact the Lodge at 898-7941.

Saturday, May 29

Kids, bring your bikes down to the Kiwanis Club of Salem’s Bike Safety Day, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Salem High School parking lot (rain or shine). Bring your camera and take a photo with the Boston Red Sox World Series trophy. Register your bike and receive a free helmet (while supplies last). There will be bicycle safety checks, free bike raffles and giveaways, free safety kits, and lots of prizes and surprises.

Memorial Day – Monday, May 31

Commemorative Services honoring fallen heroes of all America’s wars will be held on May 31, beginning with a parade, which will start from Salem High School at 1 p.m. The parade will march down Geremonty Drive and right on Main Street to Veterans Park, where a program will pay homage to the more than a million warriors in all of our nation’s wars who paid the supreme sacrifice. Salem acting Town Manager, Dr. Henry LaBranche, long-time chief administrator of Salem’s public schools, will be the main speaker at the Memorial Day ceremonies. The public is invited to refreshments at VFW Post 8546, 42 North Broadway, following the program.

Tuesday, June 1

The Supervisors of the Checklist of Salem,

New Hampshire will be in session from 7-8 p.m. on the lower level of the Municipal Office Building. Residents may register to vote, make changes or corrections to their existing data, or switch their party affiliation at this session. This will be the last opportunity for a voter to change their party before the September 14 State Primary. A picture ID and proof of domicile is required. (A driver’s license is acceptable.) Naturalized citizens must show a passport or documented citizenship papers. Residents may also register to vote or change their party with the Town Clerk at any time during regular office hours through June 1.

The first annual Edmond Lo Memorial Pasta

The CVS Store of the Rockingham Mall, Salem, will sponsor a Penny Raffle Social to

benefit the Easter Seals of New Hampshire

at the VFW Hall on River Street, Methuen, MA. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m., and the raffle prizes will be drawn at 6 p.m.

The Dr. Lewis F. Soule School, 173 South Policy Street, Salem, will be holding a yard sale from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Rent a 10-foot space for a small fee. This will be a prime location for yard sale hunters. All proceeds go to supporting the Soule School PTA and family fun nights. The Derry-Salem Elks Lodge 2226, 39 Shadow Lake Road, Salem, will hold a family event fundraiser at noon to benefit the Veterans of NH, featuring Dr. Humble and Company Blue’s Band. The event will also include dinner, featuring ribs, barbeque chicken, smoked ham, sausage, coleslaw, Dean’s beans, corn on the cob, corn bread, seasoned potatoes, and watermelon. There is a small donation to attend. Children’s portions will be available. Purchase tickets by May 24. For more information, call 898-7941.

Annual Derry-Salem Elks blessing of the bikes is scheduled for June 5 at noon, at the Lodge, 39 Shadow Lake Road, Salem. This event is sponsored to help veterans services.

The American Legion Ernest W. Young Post 63, 38 Millville St., Salem, will hold a Dignified Flag Disposal at 11 a.m. All American flags that have become worn or faded will be fittingly destroyed in a respectful and honorable service of tribute, memory, and love. Members from all veterans’ organizations, the military, and community are invited to participate. Anyone wishing to dispose of an unserviceable flag may bring them to the ceremony, or call Enrico Casaletto at 898-1150.

Salemhaven Nursing/Rehab Center, a non-profit organization, will sponsor a Yankee Pride fundraiser, New England

Tradesman Tailgate Emporium, featuring

Salem Family Resources-Success By 6 is now accepting registrations for its popular

summer Parenting & Play Groups. Parents

and their young children meet once a week with a group leader for fun, age-appropriate children’s learning activities, stories, a snack, parent support, and discussions about raising children. Friday field trips to local, low-cost/no-cost destinations for families with young children are also planned. Groups run from June 22 through August 6. A retirement reception for Joyce

Sherwood-Pike is scheduled from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Elementary School library. This event is open to the public, and all past and current students and parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Mrs. Pike has been a teacher in the Salem School District since 1989. Throughout her 20 years at Lancaster, she has taught first-, second-, and fourth-grade students.

Salem Youth Baseball is proud to announce the return of its Celebrity Golf Tournament at Merrimack Valley Country Club. All of the proceeds from the tournament will go towards funding our investment in lighting up the Babe Ruth field at Michele Park. Come and spend the day golfing with some of your favorite local celebrities including Rick Miller, Bill Lee, Joe Morgan, John Tudor and more. There is a fee per person, which includes green and cart fees, goodie bag, and after tourney banquet. The tournament will start promptly at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
