“Emo’s Crew,” participated in Lowell General Hospital’s TeamWalk for CancerCare on Sunday, May 16, at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA. Church’s father, Kenneth Gagnon, lost his battle with liver cancer in February at just 52 years old. Gagnon’s nickname was “Emo,” and the team wears shirts bearing his signature old Cadillac. As an employee of the hospital’s admitting department, Church has seen firsthand the quality of care that is available and the difference that TeamWalk funds have made in the lives of patients and their families as they undergo cancer treatment. With over 5,000 total walkers, the event raised a record-breaking $716,000 (and counting!) that will support local cancer patients.

Speed a Factor in Car Crash
submitted by Hudson Police Department
On May 20 at 5:54 p.m., members of the Hudson Police and
Fire Departments responded to West Road near Derry Street for a single-vehicle accident. Upon the officers’ arrival, a 1994 Chevy Corvette about 30 feet into a wooded area along the southbound lane of West Road was located. The officers identified the driver of the Corvette as Michael Roketenetz, 28, of Litchfield.
An on-scene investigation revealed that Roketenetz was
traveling southerly on West Road and negotiating a curve in the roadway near Derry Street. While doing so, the vehicle veered off the roadway and traveled into a wooded area along the southbound lane of West Road. Roketenetz struck several trees, which propelled the vehicle into the air. The car landed with the undercarriage resting along a tree, and with the front end pointed down to the ground. Roketenetz was the lone occupant of the vehicle and he was not wearing a seatbelt. Also, the vehicle airbags were deployed. Roketenetz complained of minor injuries, and he was evaluated by the Hudson Fire Department EMTs and released on scene. Portions of West Road were closed for nearly two hours while the Hudson Police Department conducted an investigation and the vehicle was removed from the wooded area.
Girl Scouts Support MooreMart
submitted by Paul Moore
On May 15, the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains donated 44 cases of Girl Scout Cookies to MooreMart.
Local Girl Scouts and their customers, as a way of showing their support for our troops, donated the Girl Scout Cookies. To date, the Girl Scouts have donated over 5,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies to MooreMart that have been shipped to members of the Armed Services throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. The New Hampshire/Vermont Girl Scouts have been instrumental in sending cookies and supplies to our troops serving overseas and supporting MooreMart’s efforts to support our troops.
Based on the results of the on-scene investigation, Roketenetz was issued a traffic citation for speeding.

Have you ever asked
yourself the question, why should I recycle? The most obvious answer may be because it helps save landfill space, but recycling can also save energy and natural resources.
Consider these facts. • Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
• It takes 95 percent less energy to manufacture aluminum cans from recycled cans than from raw ore.
• Recycling one ton of newspaper saves 17 trees and 7,000 gallons of water.
Help conserve our natural resources by recycling. Find out what items your local recycling program will accept, and separate those from your household trash. Make a commitment to recycling today.
