AHS Softball Rebounds Nicely

The Alvirne Broncos softball team bounced

back nicely from their loss to Concord with two shutout victories against Nashua South and Trinity. On Friday, May 21, Taylor Carbone picked up her ninth victory of the season on a two-hit, nine-strikeout shutout. Nicole Abreu and Delaney Burns had three hits each and Kaela Craven had two hits on the afternoon as the Broncos improved their season record to 14-3.

sixth shutout of the season and her 10th victory with a 2-0 win over Trinity. Carbone struck out 11, walked one, and allowed only two singles in the game. Her ERA plummeted to 0.91 on the season, and she posted some pretty impressive offensive statistics as well with a single, double, run scored, and one RBI. Burns had another great game with two hits and an RBI. With only two games remaining this week against Pinkerton and Timberlane (Wednesday and Thursday), the Broncos can clinch third seed with two victories and top four with one victory, which enables them to host at least one playoff game at Alvirne.

Boys’ Tennis Season Ends

The boys’ tennis team finished a disappointing 6-8 on the season. Last week

saw the team losing to Concord 9-0 on Monday, May 17. Linh Nguyen lost in a tiebreaker at the number-one spot, and Evan LaRoche and Jeremy Poulin lost, 8-6, in number five and six singles. On Wednesday, the Broncos took a tough 5-4 victory over Nashua North.

Nguyen, Shane O’Brien, LaRoche, and Poulin had victories in singles, while Poulin and Travis Terrio pulled out the victory in third doubles with an 8-1 win. On Friday, the final match of the season was a 7-2 victory for the Broncos over Nashua South. Nguyen, Will Livingston, O’Brien, LaRoche, and Poulin won in singles, with LaRoche and Emre Semen and Poulin and Terrio pulling out victories in second and third doubles.

Catchers Learn How to Play Behind the Plate

Players assembled at Greeley field last Friday all geared up and ready to learn the skill of catching

Dave Weaver, Director of the New England Catching Camp, hosted

an evening training session for both baseball and softball players. The future players were instructed in many of the basics of being the team catcher and also a team leader. While Dave focused on many skills, it was apparent that he was instilling the Catcher’s Creed on these young players:

Understanding that as a catcher, I must accept my role as the leader

of my team. I hold myself to the 10 points of the Catcher’s Creed while training or playing. I will be suited up, stretched, and ready to go 15 minutes before the team is expected to arrive for training or a game. My equipment will always be clean. I will never drag dirt or mud into any indoor training facility. My shirt will always be tucked in, whether in a game or at practice. I will NEVER be heard saying anything disrespectful towards a team

mate, opponent, coach, or umpire. I will never use foul language, and will hold my teammates to this

same standard. I will always complete every drill to its fullest. I will always be encouraging to my teammates, regardless of whether
