knocked off Somersworth, 7-0, in its final home game of the regular season last Thursday. The win moved the team’s overall record to 13-1, while it still remains unbeaten in Class M play. The Cougars were led by Julia Nolan, who tossed a two-hitter and struck out 12 batters in the contest. Offensively, Chelsea Caynon paved the way with three hits and two RBI. Sam Radcliffe also had a good day at the plate, going 2-2, and Erin King went 2-3 with a triple. A two-run double by JulieAnne Fernandez in the first inning was responsible for igniting the team’s hitting attack. Before the game began, the Cougars recognized their lone senior, Shelby Bowen, for her commitment
to the program. Bowen, who played her last regular season home game for Campbell, has excelled in the role of team captain this past season. A dedicated and selfless leader, she sets a strong example and helps her teammates succeed on the field, while also organizing team events off of it.
“She’s been everything that a
coach could want out of a captain,” Campbell coach Laurie Gatherum said. The Cougars finished out their regular season schedule with games at Mascenic and Epping this past week. Post-season play rolls around next week, where the Cougars, sitting at the top of the Class M standings, will try to make another run at the state title.
