Herend in Rome – With movie stars
One of Hungary’s greatest cultural institutions abroad, the Hungarian Academy, Rome, hosted the opening of the newly-opened Herend exhibition.
The event, entitled ”RHEVOLUTION,” combines the key elements as R as Rothschild, H as Herend. Advancement and Revolution together, and the Manufactory’s two main principles: Tradition and Renewal. The event showcased the Manufactory’s best known Rothschild
pattern service, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, decorative objects, special museum pieces, as well as eclectic Herend place settings composed by Milanese fashion designer Massimiliano Locatelli in 2009. After the exhibition’s opening ceremony, there was a reception for the illustrious guests in the banquet hall of the Eternal City’s splendid medieval palace, Palazzo Colonna. Special guests included the Republic of Hungary’s Ambassador to Rome. The Manufactory’s Commercial Director, László Szesztay presented Rothschild pattern vases and Gödöllö pattern tea cups, originally made for the favourite palace of Elisabeth, Empress of Austria, to VIP guests.
The exhibition was held until the end of April at the famous institution, located in Via Giulia, of such great import to Hungarians from both religious and cultural viewpoints. Thereafter smaller selections will await visitors in nine other Italian cities.
All nations are welcome at Meissen
To mark Meissen’s tercentenary, the Museum of Meissen Art is showing an intercultural special exhibition entitled “All Nations Are Welcome”.
Since its establishment in 1710, the Meissen porcelain manufactory has taken up international infl uences and thus written art and cultural history. The exhibition will show a unique presentation of various countries, nations, and religions with characteristic Meissen porcelain. Every display case is devoted to a country or theme. In addition to historical pieces, visitors can also see contemporary works of porcelain art, created by current Meissen artists. In the manufactory’s fi rst production site in the Albrechtsburg castle in Meissen, the unique success story of Meissen Porcelain began. Over centuries and generations, the delicate white porcelain with the crossed blue swords has enthused friends and afi cionados of porcelain, and it carries the artistry and spirit of innovation from Saxony around the globe. The brand one has manifested itself for 300 years now in masterful craftsmanship, its special aesthetics, individuality, sensuality, and high value. Precious porcelain from the fi elds Fine Living & Home Art, Fine Dining and Fine Jewellery & Accessories are proof of this. The Meissen Manufactory, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Staatliche Schlösser Burgen and Gärten Sachsen, as well as additional partners, will put on an extensive programme of exhibitions and events for the anniversary year 2010.
Steelite and La Tavola announce joint venture

Robert Welch wins Bud Design Award
Robert Welch Designs is pleased to announce that one of the latest additions to its exclusive range of cutlery – Bud - has won a red dot design award for 2010. The new Bud cutlery by Robert Welch Designs has succeeded in one of the most renowned and hardest international design competitions worldwide. In the red dot award: product design competition Bud cutlery was awarded the “red dot” quality seal for high design quality. The jury consisting of 30 internationally renowned design experts examined and tested the products and assessed them according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, longevity, ecological compatibility and clarity of function. This award is only conferred to particularly creative, innovative, and high-quality products. In total 1,636 products from 57 countries faced the jury this year. The award-winning products are exhibited to an international public in the red dot design museum in Essen, Germany.
