Haley Newton, age 9, is shown receiving her trophy from Lewis DuMont, race director of the Nestle 5k Children’s 1 Mile Fun Run held May 15, 2010. Haley won first place, girls divi- sion, age 12 and under and finished 4th overall in the one mile run. Haley is the daughter of Brad and Crystal New- ton of Danville, VA.
TUNSTALL JR. ROTC AWARDS
The Tunstall High School Army Junior ROTC Trojan Battalion hosted it's award ceremony recently at THS. The American Legion Scholastic Excellence Award was presented to Cadet First Sergeant Aubrey Holder by Ron Meadows, American Legion Post 325 Jr. ROTC Chairman. Holder is also a member of the drill team, raider team and color guard.
Westover Christian Academy Athletic Award Winners for 2010. Tyler Wentz, Male Athlete of the Year; Hope Davis, Female Athlete of the Year; Scott Burnette, The Marine Award; Maria Matherly, Female Bulldog Award and Clayton Johnson, Male Bulldog Award. Congratulations to all of the winners. All were well deserved!!
The Luncheon Pilot Club held its annual Baby of the Year Contest on Sunday, May 2nd at Grace Design Methodist Church. The winner was Grayson Oakes, son of Greg & Jennifer Oakes.

Award was presented to Cadet Second Lieutenant Ash- ley Francisco by American Legion Post 325 Jr. ROTC chairman Ron Meadows. Ashely is also the battalion adjutant and an active member of the drill team and color guard.
Living in the Country
Everything about living in the country delighted my neighbors, who had moved to our small town from the city. One day they spotted a sign, "Fresh Eggs For Sale" at a roadside stand where payment was on the honor system.
"Why can't everyone be this trusting?" they said as they put their money into the box and took a carton. When they got home and opened it, they found 11 eggs.
