innocent and fun-filled childhood. Whether fishing, hunting, or playing with other neighborhood kids, Redlin was surrounded by sites and sounds of rural America. Some of the places Redlin knew as a child have been incorporated into his paintings of today. We refer to these places as “Redlin’s Inspirational Sites.” For true Redlin fans, it is fascinating to see how Terry Redlin magically melds reality with imagination to cre- ate the romantic recreations he has become famous for. The places in and around Watertown that can be seen within Redlin’s paintings are unique. In some cases, they do not even resemble what the artist has captured in his painting. An artist’s “eye” can see details and possibilities that not everyone can see. That is what is interesting about these actual places – we can try to imagine how Terry Redlin arrived at his romantic version of the scene. There are 9 Redlin paintings that capture local sites. They are:

“An American novelist once told us that you “can’t go home again.” He was wrong. In my mind, even when physically away, I never left home. And when I finally returned home it was a great relief. I had a deep feeling that finally things were going to be okay. I was reconnected to my past, to a childhood that was all magic.”
