Infant Jesus School (IJS), a Catholic Pre-K to sixth-grade elementary

school in Nashua, finished in first place for the statewide “Fuel Up to Play 60” national wellness competition. The National Dairy Association huddled up with the National Football League to help America’s students eat right and stay active by inspiring them to “get up” and play for 60 minutes a day and to “fuel up” with healthy food groups. The free program focused on empowering children to make smart choices about their nutrition and physical activity, and ran from February 1 to March 15. “Students need to pay more attention to what they are eating and exactly how much exercise they get each and every day,” said Missy Cusack, physical education teacher at Infant Jesus Elementary School. “With this program, our kids became focused on eating nutritious foods more often and getting at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. To finish first in the state of New Hampshire is such a tremendous accomplishment for our students. Our kids are learning and believing that eating right and staying active are important for the health of their future.” Schools and

youth enrolled for the program at the Fuel Up to Play 60 Website by registering online, pledging to eat healthier and be more physically active. With the help of Kathy Litch, computer teacher at Infant Jesus School,

students registered during their computer classes, and then, with the help of their parents, tracked their healthy behaviors online. The IJS students were motivated to work hard, accomplishing the exceptional goal of a statewide first-place finish. The reward for this commitment to healthy eating and physical fitness was an interactive HOPSports gym session for all of the students, which took place on Tuesday, May 11, and was hosted by the local New England Dairy and Food Council. The goal of this session was to teach Infant Jesus students the importance of an active lifestyle. After the gym session, students were able to fuel up with free samples of chocolate milk from the Fuel Up to Play 60 truck.
