Proud Supporter of NAOSH week

- BEYOND ZERO TEAM

The Beyond Zero Team is a Jacobs Industrial Services Ltd. company initiative that promotes all of the core values of our employees with an emphasis placed on safety. The Team consists of 6 workers and 2 management facilitators. Jacobs site management is to ensure that Productivity and Safety are spoken with the same amount of consideration and emphasis when providing the maintenance service to Canadian Fertilizers Limited. To obtain the goal of a safe and productive site we must ensure that there is full involvement from our workers. This means that need to hear and correct the concerns brought to our attention by our workers. This is being accomplished by developing our Beyond Zero worker level team as the driving force in identifying concerns, being involved in making changes and correcting less than standard levels of safety that in the past were deemed acceptable. This team also acts as ambassadors in sharing changes that have been made with the remainder of the workers and letting them know that the changes, although sometimes diffi cult, are good for all of us.

SOME OF THE COMPLETED AND ONGOING INITIATIVES:*

-Participate in SOR’s, (site observation report), where the workers go out to the fi eld and observe other workers (Jacobs/Canadian Fertilizers) conduct their work and give them immediate feedback (positive or improvement opportunities), each one of the Beyond Zero Team members conducts one SOR per week.

-Participate in SPA’s (safe plan action), they not only complete the safe plan action when they are working on the job, they observe other workers and give them immediate feedback on progress. Each Beyond Zero team member conducts one audit per week.

-The Team participated in site guarding standard audit which entailed reviewing the site standard and corresponding legislation, conducting a site survey on established guards, and issuing work orders for questionable guarding. The Team has been instrumental in ensuring all equipment guards meet the required standard.

-Employees used to walk through shop when work was going on when coffee or lunch break occurred without PPE, now employees wear their PPE up to the lunchroom and place gear

in cubicles outside of lunchroom. This removed the risk of anyone getting exposed to a hazard during this time frame.

-Developed a maintenance/carpenter shop housekeeping check list for maintain excellent housekeeping day to day which spreads this philosophy to the fi eld work locations. One inspection per week involving the Beyond Zero Team members and feedback is provided to other workers.

ITEMS BEING WORKED ON

-Shop storage areas, the Team is in the process of identifying and marking areas where no items can be stored to prevent tripping hazards

-Working on a standard SPA for training purposes for new hires

-Identifying what is required for training for Jacobs new worker program

-Involving outside contractors in the SOR program to ensure they are meeting site standard safety requirements and assisting them where they are not.
