This yearmarks the centenary of the 1910Galt Hospital building and itsmany uses as a hospital, city health unit andmost recently, as the Sir AlexanderGaltMuseum&Archives. This
impressive brick structure at the end of 1 Street South is home to several permanent exhibits and displays allowing the young and old to see, hear, touch and feel our history. While there, be sure to check out “Kaahsinnooniksi Ao’toksisawooyawa:Our ancestors have come to visit: Blackfoot Shirts.” These five extraordinary 170-year-old Blackfoot shirts,which have been residing in an England museumsince 1893,will be on display fromJune 5 to Aug. 29. Nestled in theCypressHills,Canada’s only interprovincial park is also the highest point between theRockyMountains and Labrador. On the Alberta side, three lakes offer fishing,
swimming and boating. There are alsomore than 50 kilometres of hiking andmountain-biking trails and a range of campsites to accommodate those ready to live off the land, or out of anRV. The Elkwater townsite is home to a busy interpretive centre,with displays and nature activities running all summer. There’s also a bed and breakfast,motel cabins, a nine-hole golf course and several restaurants and small shops.

Each summer the best gardeners in the city open their backyards to curiousmembers of the public for theMedicineHatHorticultural Society’s Garden Tour.
Don’t expect to see a fewpetunias in a pot. These are
serious landscapers, known for their use of stone,water and awide range of flora,who transformtheir outdoor spaces intominiaturemountainsides and conservatories. This year’s tour is slated for July 11, and visitors are free
