St Paul’s wins World Cup – in Yorkshire
The St Paul’s School team won the day at the Tregelles World Cup, York, claiming a replica of the football World Cup trophy as their reward. The event, organised by Tregelles, The Mount Junior School, attracted nearly 200 primary school footballers and the attention of FIFA, the organisation running the offi cial World Cup in South Africa. FIFA offi cially endorsed the Tregelles event and supplied fair play prizes for the players. St Paul’s stormed to victory in the Gold league, ahead of second- place English Martyrs.

Boys celebrate historic Twickenham win
Continuing the theme of London schools triumphing in sport, Whitgift School made Rugby Union history at Twickenham this spring, becoming the fi rst school from London to win the Daily Mail Schools Under-18 Cup. Star Marland Yarde scored a hat-trick of tries as Whitgift overwhelmed RGS Newcastle 34-10 in the fi nal. The team was cheered on by the
entire school, who had been transported to the stadium via 30 coaches. Yarde, a centre who is already a fi xture in the England Under-18 Squad, scored a phenomenal 42 tries throughout the campaign. “To get three at Twickenham was amazing,” he told The Daily Mail. “But it’s not just about me, it’s down to the eff ort of the team.”
