Visit an Award-Winning Winery
Just a short drive through Gilroy you’ll find Solis Winery. Solis wines have won many prestigious awards, including Best of Region, and Best of Class. Crafting small batches of very fine wine is a constant focus of loving attention.
In 1917 Bertero Winery was opened where Solis Winery now stands. In 1989 the winery was purchased by the Vanni family and renamed Rancho de Solis, incorporating 8800 acres of land.
In 2007, Michael and Vic Vanni took over the winery from their parents. They grow on 11 acres plus another 30 acres in the near vicinity within Santa Clara Valley. The Vanni broth- ers attention to detail and extensive knowledge of current trends has lead to the creation of some of the region’s best wines…as evidenced by the increasing number of awards won each year. Additionally, they are constantly thinking of new events to host at the vineyard, and im- provements that will enhance their guest’s experience. Feel free to ask any questions you might have of
these wine experts. They will gladly share their expertise and opinions of the best wines of the Gilroy area. Today, they are well known for their Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot and Fiano. Almost all 4,000 cases of their wine is Estate bottled which is becoming more unusual in today’s climate.
To get a first hand taste of their award-winning wine, visit the tast- ing room and enjoy a breathtaking view of the vineyard - nestled within the surrounding Santa Clara Valley mountains. Guided tours are also available by request.
DID YOU KNOW the Gilroy area is home to more than a dozen winer- ies? Take a tour that will take you to multiple wineries in this area. These tours, offered by independent com- panies, will take you throughout this fabulous region known as “The Valley of the Heart’s Delight,” named by the Native Americans. French and Italian settlers who arrived during the Gold Rush also recognized the rich soils and Mediterranean climate as a perfect home for their European grape varieties.
Proud, dedicated, award-winning wine-makers still carry on ancestor’s traditions of excellence. Through World Wars, the Great Depression, and Prohibition, family winegrowers of the Santa Clara Valley have honed their craft and spread the belief that fine wine is an important, civilized part of a healthy and gracious lifestyle.
In addition to family owned winer- ies, Gilroy is home to great events and festivals that make it an extraordinary region for a visit or even a vacation. Visiting the historic wineries is to leave the Computer Age behind. Daily wine tastings are available at most of the wineries and many offer tours, special festi- vals, concerts and dinners. Several are available for picture-perfect private parties, corporate events, and weddings.
