QUALITY FAMILY TIME TOGETHER
Howdy to all Piedmont Shopper readers. I am
truly excited to be writing this week on one of my favorite “F” words yes, Family. In a world that is fi lled with chaos, violence, suffering, negativity, and even hatred, there’s nothing more comforting to know that you can come home and fi nd some sort of peace, harmony and security there.
Having grown up on the west coast in a large family
setting, the peace and harmony was NOT always there, but there was defi nitely a sense of family unity and time shared within my childhood household. Therefore, the notion of Family ties and time are priceless to me. It doesn’t matter how you were raised whether it be with plenty or just the essentials, what matters is that the family unit was intact. Now when I say the family unit, it may vary from household to household. Perhaps it’s a two-parent home or single parent, or one that was fi lled with extended family members as well. What’s most important is the bond and time that was given from a young age into adulthood. Thinking about my own folks both being working parents, they still provided a sense of stability despite facing fi nancial hardships themselves. The outcome of this family bond and stability resulted in the eight of us developing into adults with a solid foundation of love, security and self confi dence. Today, as an mother and grandmother, I fi nd myself realizing just how important my upbringing was to me as I try to bring those exact beliefs into my own family. As the quote by Ivana Trump states, “Family is the root of all that is good in our lives, and I am so grateful for mine.” This sums up my family ties perfectly.
Being a realist, I am well aware that many of today’s
families involve working parents and the time spent with one’s family may be minimal at best. What is crucial is to make each minute count when there is time to spend it with family members. To establish a balance between work and family can be diffi cult and stressful at times, but both need proper attention. Personally, I feel that the latter needs much more nurturing than the work place, for when the day is over, what is left is returning to a safe haven and a family who eagerly awaits your arrival. This brings to mind another quote, which reads, “If you’ve had wonderful family relationships, you will be able to call yourself a true success in life no matter what else you’ve achieved. - Vic Conant
So what exactly does spending quality family time together mean? It can range from sitting and sharing a meal together around the dinner table, helping a child with their homework, reading to them or vice versa. It also can mean sharing household chores together, mowing the lawn, washing the family car, folding laundry or anything that involves sharing time with your children. Another instance of sharing family time which cannot be excluded are all those countless hours of playing chauffer to music lessons or sporting events, then sitting there and waiting for those activities to be over. Family time may also involve anything and everything that will leave your child with that sense of closeness as you tighten the bond between you and them. I am truly sensitive to the fact that after working eight to ten hours a day, the last thing on your mind is wanting to help out with the children, but it is an essential ingredient to the success of producing wonderful family ties. This time must begin at an early age and carried on throughout the teenage years. Once this time frame has been elapsed, a parent’s greatest joy is to know that they provided wings for the children to fl y on their own. All this is possible due to the time that was given to them as they grew up before your very own eyes. Creating and cherishing those family moments from a young age will leave behind a lifetime of happy memories. As stated in my last quote by Dr. Joyce Brothers, “When you look at your life, the greatest happiness’s are family happiness’s.”
With all this said, I offer you an amazing opportunity
to experience “Quality Family Time Together.” Where and How you may ask? This coming weekend, May 14, 15, & 16th will be a special one in the city of Danville. As a community there will be an opportunity to gather together and share in one of the biggest and most exciting events of the year. You can join in celebrating “Festival in the Park 2010” which will be held in Ballou Park. This three day event will offer a chance not only to spend time with friends that you have not seen in a while but more important with your families. The theme for this year’s celebration is based around the concept of spending quality family time together. There will be activities for every member of the family, for every age group. There will be three stages featuring various types of music, jumpers and games for the kiddies. Also one must NEVER leave out the different food and snack booths that will be available as well. This is a golden opportunity to grab your family members, bring your lawn chairs and take part in three fun fi lled days with those you love. My own personal regret is that while I am on the West Coast, I will not be able to participate in this memorable event myself. It is earnest hope that each of you readers will indulge in the fun while kicking up your heels. An opportunity like this is the perfect setting to have a fantastically fun time with your loved ones, so please don’t let it slip through your fi ngers. ENJOY the Festival or DISFRUTEN el Festival!!!!!

Don’t pay someone to clean up your credit
There are companies that claim they can clean up your credit . . . for a fee! These companies are sending letters to your creditors and the credit bureaus disputing your debt. If the creditor responds that the information on the credit report is correct, unless you can prove them wrong this information stays on your credit report . . . and nothing has been accomplished.
If there is information that is reporting on your credit report that is not accurate then you can dispute it yourself without paying someone to do it for you! Keep accurate records when you pay off a debt so that you have proof it has been taken care of. Follow up and make sure that it does report correctly on your credit report.
Cleaning up your credit will take time and you can do it yourself. If you have questions or need advice in doing this seek a professional with your local bank or credit union and beware of anyone looking to profit from your situation!
