The Pelham softball team dropped contests to ConVal, Campbell, and Hollis-Brookline last week. The Pythons played ConVal twice, coming up just short of victory in eight innings against the Cougars the first time around on Monday, May 3. The Cougars won 5-4 on their own home field, but the teams had a rematch in Pelham the following Thursday. This time, visiting ConVal would take a victory again, 8-4. Despite the losses, Pelham’s batting order continues to produce offensively and its defense is improving. Shortstop Gina Grimes provided one double and one RBI in the first game against ConVal, while infielder Shaylyn Freitas went 2-4 with two runs, two triples, and one RBI. Kathryn Mostone also had one RBI, while executing nine out of nine fielding opportunities. Freitas was perfect in the field as well, going 5-5. In the Thursday match versus ConVal, Grimes went 2-4 and scored a run as Steph Winn contributed one RBI. Centerfielder Alex Hall
also doubled and drove in a run, and Freitas went 1-3 at the plate. Amanda Levesque did not commit an error in eight fielding chances on defense. The day before facing ConVal for the second time, the Pythons faced the Cougars from Campbell High School. Grimes scored the team’s lone run, while Freitas went 1-3 once again. Pelham then hosted Hollis-Brookline on Friday, but lost 9-4. Grimes went 1-1, scored three runs, stole three bases, and walked three times. Mostone provided one RBI, while Freitas went 1-3 with one RBI. Hannah Schaffer also went 1-3 at the plate as Amanda Blake went 1-3 with a double and one run scored. Grimes, Hall, Freitas, and Mostone all went 5-5 in fielding opportunities, and Blake registered six put-outs playing catcher. Pelham’s next game will be on the road against Hollis-Brookline on Monday. The team’s next home contest will be the following Wednesday versus Souhegan at 4:15 p.m.

Outlaws Youth Lacrosse, continued their winning ways this week, as all three teams remained undefeated. The big city boys from Salem rode into town on Sunday, and were sent packing with three losses. After the U-11 program opened the day with an 8-4 victory to move to 3-0 on the season, the U-13 team went to work. Totally dominating play from the opening face-off, Pelham claimed an 11- 1 win. Leading the scoring parade for the U-13 team were Brandon Payzant with three goals; Justin Beecher, Michael Chiasson, and Bailey Custeau with two goals each; and Zach Masiello with one goal and one assist. For the second week in a row, one of Pelham’s defenders put the ball past the opposing goalie, as Zach Jackson took a beautiful pass from Trevor Longo and put a quick stick goal on the board. Defenders Tim Callahan, Jimmy Russo, and Cam Holdsworth limited Salem’s scoring opportunities, and midfielder Aidan Walsh led the team with seven groundballs. Pelham’s U-15 team moved to 2-0 on the season with a solid 9-5 win over the Snipers. Attackman Luke Tracy was a standout on offense with four goals on the day. Midfielders Harley Kearney and Connor Tierney each chipped in with two goals, and Kevin Sabine added one. Midfielder Matt Cerretani was a face-off machine, winning six of eight, and also adding an assist. Kearney and defender Joe Costa each had seven groundballs on the day and the defense was anchored by the inspired play of Dylan Faust and Joey Brown. Goalie Collin Duff-Marsh turned away seven shots. The U-13 and U-15
Outlaws, coached by Russ Moyer, Sean Ball, David Williams, and Steve Hall, return to action on Sunday, May 9, versus Cocheco at Muldoon Park. The U-13 game starts at 12:45 p.m., with the U-15 team playing at 2 p.m. The U-11 team, coached by George Drolet, Paul O’Connell, and Chris Mayer, will take the field at 11:30 a.m. All boys interested in playing
next year are encouraged to attend, as Pelham looks to expand with two teams at each age level next spring.
