This programme provides a broad understanding of the mechanical engineering industry, whilst allowing students to develop their own specialist skills in the second year.
The programme includes the following modules:
• Analytical Methods • Product Design and CAD • Mechanical Principles • Thermofluids • Materials • Applied Science • Business Management
Progression
The programme equips students for Senior Technician roles in areas such as design engineering and manufacturing or top up to a Foundation Degree.
Assessment
Assessment is by a mixture of coursework, project work and examinations.
Additional Information
This qualification may be used as a pathway to registration with a number of professional bodies including the Institution of Incorporated Engineers in Mechanical Engineering, the Institution of Plan Engineers and the Institution of Engineering Designers.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have at least one of the following: 1 A level/ Advanced GCE or 2 AS levels in Maths, Physics, IT or Design Technology (for AS entry, these must be at Grade B or above, with at least one in Maths or Physics) plus 5 GCSEs at C or above including Maths and English; a BTEC National Diploma preferably in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
