FUNDING
Networking with other schools in this country and beyond is becoming commonplace now. Now may be the very time to invest in change at King Charles.
Broadband
Digital content via a high speed Broadband connection with the SWGfL has been purchased since March 2002. This is in the form of a yearly account. Funding - Grant 121
We paid an enormous £4,500 to the SWGfL last year for our dedicated broadband connection. We are currently a hub school and receive discount. I have made enquiries with Simon Allen, the BT Local Business Manager in Plymouth and asked him for a quote. Apparently it would cost an astonishing £7,100 to instal and a further £9,216 rental for one year from them! This needs addressing at county level. Broadband will become prohibitive for some schools if it continues to rise at such a rate.
Technical Support
Technical Support is now provided by NCI. A technician is booked to spend one day a month - except December and August throughout the year. During the first year with NCI we have managed an upgrade to upgrade the curriculum server by combining it with the admin. The server is in the computer suite. Remote support is also available from NCI.
We now have well over 100 workstations and laptops in school with the possibility of many more in the near future. There are also digital cameras, video cameras, flip video
