CATCHING

Lifejackets

Save Lives

82 fi shermen died after falling overboard between 1992 and 2006.

If they had been wearing a lifejacket their chances of survival would have been far greater.

If you found yourself in the water it may well be the only chance you have of staying alive.

What checks should you do?

• Check that the gas cylinders are fi rmly tightened into the release units on your lifejackets.

• If your lifejacket is fi tted with manual or automatic release units you should also regularly carry out the safety checks in the booklet supplied with your lifejacket, which include:

The single point infl ator indicator (if fi tted) is green

The expiry date has not been reached The infl ation handle is attached

Wear your lifejacket at all times on deck.
