The spring sports season has gotten off to a great start! Although we are already half way through the season, our athletes have demonstrated great sportsmanship, perseverance, and determination.
• Girls Track – Coach Raffington
Since the winter season, the girls track team has shown significant improvement, including a stronger sense of team unity. Along with welcoming Arielle Mitchell to the team, Coach Raffington would like to recognize Noveka McKay and Tonisha Waterton for being this season’s most improved athletes. Tinique Samuels also stands out for breaking the school record in shot-put, formally held by Brittany Dukes, by throwing a distance of 38.4 feet. Coach Raffington is hoping to arrange a scholarship for Tinique’s outstanding athletic ability, On Saturday, April 25, 2010, the team participated in the prestigious Penn Relays.
• Boys Track- Coach Lyons
So far, the boys track team is performing very well. Although it is a very young team mainly composed of freshmen, the athletes have showed great improvement. Their rise was demonstrated in the recent Derrick Adkins Classic where the team placed third in the 4x100 and sprint medley. Coach Lyons would like to highlight Paul Bentsen, Azeez Smith and George Wyche. Additionally, He is encouraging his athletes to continue to aim for their best, excel in their schoolwork, remain humble, and have faith when he tells them that they will do well.
• Softball- Coach Vila
The girl’s softball team is made up of mainly young players who have either come from Junior Varsity or the middle school to the Varsity team. Because of this big transition, many of the players do not have varsity experience, but with continued perseverance, will be successful. Coach Vila would like to highlight Sarah Mitchell, an all around and solid player, for her

dedication to the team for the past four years. He would also like to wish her the best of luck in college.
• Boys Volleyball- Coach Reynolds
This year’s team has a roster of 11 very young players, They are playing very hard and regardless if they win or not, they maintain a positive attitude at all times. The boys continually build each other up and persevere even when the odds are stocked up against them. They embody a drive that influences there willingness to practice even when their coach doesn’t want to. This season’s key players are Dustin Anderson, Peccine Pericles, and Rashad Cummings.
• Baseball- Coach Wisz
This season’s team is showing continuous improvement throughout the season. Each practice session and game has built the overall strength of the team. Although they have only played a few games so far, Coach Wisz is confident that they will win several before the season is over. He would like to highlight Erick Rivas, Louis Baez, Juan Castillo, and Manny Guzman as the team’s key players.
• Girls Badminton- Coach Jones
This years team is off to an excellent start with a winning record thus far this season! They have done a wonderful job, and Coach Jones is confident that they will be successful this year. Additionally, in two weeks, the team will compete in Counties and All Conference. Coach Jones would like to highlight Chantelle Williams, Chantelle Jack, Nicole Hayes, Racquel Rivas, Katelyn Ortiz, Danielle Evans, Wendy Solis, Alicia Robinson, Stephany Braxton, Monaya Holley, and Shanita Ray for their hard work on the team.
