Spa-Perfect Pedicure

TREND when women begin kicking off their winter footwear and slipping on the flip flops, but why hassle with setting salon appointments and driving out of your way when you can do it yourself in the comfort of your own home? here are eight quick-and-easy tips to get your toes looking terrific in your summer sandals.

things you’ll need: - nail polish remover - cotton balls - large bowl or bucket - epsom salts

- scented oil (optional) - towel

- pumice pad - olive oil and raw sugar mixture or scrub moisturizer of your choice - cuticle tool or popsicle stick - nail polish

1. Remove

remove any old nail polish thoroughly with an acetone polish remover and a cotton ball to ensure a cleaner, healthier-looking pedicure.

2. Luxurious Soak

add epsom salts and your favorite scented oil to warm water and soak your feet for 10 to 15 minutes. if you want a more glam- orous and luxurious feel try soaking your

feet in a large bowl or bucket rather than the bathtub. if you go with the large bowl you can place it in your living room or bedroom and settle down with a good book.

3. Buffer

dry your feet with a clean towel. then, exfoliate feet and heels with a biodegrad- able pumice pad, which can be purchased at any drug store. rub in any direction you want, but don’t scrub too hard and never rub the top of your foot. make sure to get your heel, the ball of your foot and your big toe.

4. Exfoliate

remove dry skin from legs and feet with either a homemade mixture of olive oil and raw sugar or a scrub of your choice. rub in an upward motion for three min- utes. then, rinse in your foot bath.

5. Tidy Them Up

clip nails with a toenail clipper, and then file them to your length of choice. make sure not to go too short. run your finger across the top of your toe. if your nail barely grazes your finger, you’ve got the right length. as for shape, you can either have rounded or squared edges. it’s com- pletely up to you.

6. Moisturize and Soften

massage feet and legs with a rich, creamy lotion of your choice. then, apply cuticle oil (olive oil works just as well) to nails to soften and revitalize rough areas.

7. Push

use a cuticle tool or popsicle stick to press cuticles back so they don’t get in the way of the polish. refrain from cutting them; it will save you a lot of trouble in the future.

8. Polish

apply a base coat of clear polish and two light coats of a polish of your choice. Go with a color that makes you feel adventur- ous and confident, yet comfortable and professional. finish with a top coat.
