Top marks for Saltburn's Community PC
Saltburn’s fleet-footed community policeman got a pat on the back from one of the members of the Retired Men’s Forum when Chief Constable Sean Price visited the town’s forum on April 12th. A member told him that he had seen PC Stuart
Smith run after a group of youths in the valley gardens and outpace them. “They ran up the banks, but he raced after them.
It was commendable,” said the member. Mr Price promised to pass on the remarks when he next saw PC Smith.
The Chief Constable said that the police could
face a 20 per cent cut in its budget, but he was trying to avoid reducing numbers of police, currently over 1,700, plus about 190 police community support officers (PCSOs). This would be achieved by switching some
services like human resources and IT (information technology) to outside firms following a private company dealing with custody. He was insisting on promises of no staff to face enforced redundancies for at least 10 years. Mr Price said the work of Cleveland Police had
changed recently with more resources being put into tracking internet crime. But burglaries will remain his top priority
followed closely by anti-social behaviour and drug misuse.
