Well, the clocks have gone foreword and it’s Spring time. With a bit of luck we will have a good summer so that we can enjoy our outdoor activities. This is an important announcement, as they say: The AGM is at the coffee morning on Friday, 4th June, not in May as it usually is. Nominations for the committee must be received by 7th May. You can obtain a nomination form from group leader, Judy Snowdon, on
jasnowdon@hotmail.com or contact any committee member. Rod Bell is running the London Proms trip again
this year. This a very popular outing held in August. If you are interested I think there are still some places available. Contact Rod on 01287 653141. The video that was produced by Northumbria area is
now available. It shows some of our groups in action. If you are interested in borrowing it please contact me on 01642 475649. It may be better if activities group watch it together, as we only have one copy. We are still looking for some more people to start the Map reading course. Also the bowls starts on Tues 27th April at Saltburn bowls club so come along if you want to play. The digital photography is so popular Hugh Melvin is looking to run more courses later this year. If you are interested put your name down on the new activities list at the coffee morning.

Mavis Moss active in a wheelchair
Mavis Moss, who has died aged 78, was active in the community though she was confined to a wheelchair for the last few years of her life. Mavis, of Diamond Street, Saltburn, campaigned
with success for the council to reopen the clifftop paths, involving MP Ashok Kumar in 2005. She had buttonholed him during the switching on of the pier lights ceremony. Mavis was born at South Shields and the family
moved to Middlesbrough when her father got a job with Tees Towing. She recalled during a Talk of the Town profile article in 2006: “When I was a little girl in Middlesbrough I never dreamed I would live in Saltburn as it was very select. It was a long time before I got accepted, but now newcomers are welcomed far more quickly.” She and her first husband Malcolm Armstrong ran
Brydene Guest House, Ruby Street, until her daughter Christine Harker took it over in 2001. She recalled turning down the opportunity of
putting up the Beatles. She was worried about fans “tearing around.” When Mac died she met her second husband widower Joe Moss, a former Evening Gazette journalist, who died in 2001. Mavis was a Pekinese breeder and often was seen in the town in her buggy with a Peke or two on her lap.
