Playbuilder scheme behind schedule
An adventure-style children’s play area has run into trouble at Saltburn’s valley gardens. It is weeks behind schedule because of a shortage of
artificial turf from Czechoslovakia and, at New Marske, of special German wooden equipment. And vandals have pulled down temporary steel
fencing round some of the Government-funded play area, which is between the Cat Nab car park and the donkey field. Councillor John Robinson, chairman of Redcar and
Cleveland’s coastal area committee, meeting at Saltburn’s community hall on Wednesday, April 7th, said: “There’s a shortage of safety turf so Saltburn is behind schedule. Fencing has been pulled down twice.” Councillor Norah Cooney said consultation had been
held with children and young people, but not with older people though this should have happened. “Health and Safety representatives have stopped
work on some projects because water was filling holes.” Councillor Robinson said the original consultation
plans had been on display at the woodlands centre and library, but had been a bit rushed through. Councillors had been kept in the dark. Police Inspector Charlie Bell said police would
Five Rhythms Dance
Chris Boylan’s popular Five Rhythms Dance sessions have returned to Saltburn. Five Rhythms is a simple creative movement practice devised by Gabrielle Roth. There are no steps to learn; we simply move with what is already there for us. You don’t need to be super-fit. Bulging biceps and bingo wings, six packs and pie bellies are all just as welcome on the dance floor. It is a funky movement meditation designed to
release the dancer in everyone. We can find out more about what is going on for us, we can express ourselves in new ways, we can release whatever is holding us back, we can find new and imaginative ways of being, and we can find a deep sense of peace and connection. In the words of Sue Erskine, one of the local
dancers; “It is an enlightening experience on all levels, physically, emotionally and spiritually.” Chris Boylan has been dancing Five Rhythms for
over a decade, he is an accredited teacher, having trained in Europe and the USA with Gabrielle Roth and faculty. Originally a machinist by trade, he brings the humour and practicality of the shop floor to the dance floor.
Classes cost £4, £6 or £9 depending on your
income and the first session is half-price if you are completely new to Five Rhythms. The next sessions will be held at the Scout Hut on
Tuesday, May 18th and Tuesday, June 15th from 7.00pm-9.15pm. All are welcome. If you would like to find out more about Five
Rhythms, go to

monitor the Saltburn area following the removal of temporary metal fencing. Council official Julian Feakes said the New Marske
play area had been due to be completed by mid-April, but there had been difficulty in getting special “upside-down trees” from Germany. Councillor Madge Moses, of Marske, said the Normanby Playbuilder scheme had been a success.
