business growth.

For many years Metso SA has operated subsidiary companies in Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, while these subsidiaries serviced largely their own domestic

markets. Three years ago, the company developed an African dealer network to assist in growing its spares and service business, focusing on more distant African countries.

“Our strategy was simply to be closer to the developing economic action”, explained Metso mining distributors and marketing GM, Darryl Moss. A number of agents were identified and appointed in West Africa, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar and Mozambique. These dealers work alongside the existing Metso subsidiary companies in Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe, forming a network of service hubs covering African countries serviced by Metso SA sales, service and manufacturing operations.

“We also realised that pump service and repair had to be situated close to our customer base, to provide rapid turnaround time that business growth demands”, said Moss. Pumpserve in the SA province of KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga Pumps in the SA coal fields province, were appointed as agents for pumps and pump spares, and authorised to repair and service pumps on behalf of Metso.
