Sailors in beach tidy
Trainee sailors from HMS Raleigh have lent their support to the Clean Cornwall Campaign by taking part in a beach clean at Portwrinkle.
A group of 13 trainees, together with two of their instructors, spent three hours on the beach picking up 28 bags full of items washed up on the shore.
Trainee submariner Danny Parker, 19, said: ‘It’s good to help out and show that we are involved with the local community.’
The sailors taking part are part of a division for recruits who have faced injury during their training.
They became involved in the beach clean following a formal request from the mayor of Torpoint, Mike Pearn.
Stonehouse wing instructor Petty Officer ‘Billy’ Nourse said: ‘The team worked hard during the day, completing three hours of arduous work, which is credit to their dedication and drive to recover from their injuries.’
Rachel Corner from the Screech Owl Sanctuary and ‘Aztec’ the spectacled owl join the children at Torpoint library.
