Bag It for Earth Day – Basha

Elementary fourth-graders from Diane Russhon’s class decorated 857 grocery bags for Safeway and Albertsons that were given out on Earth Day. The students used paper bags from grocery stores and embellished them with Earth Day pictures and slogans, and the store used them to promote Earth Day awareness among their

customers. STSN photo

CTA-Independence Hawks

NFL Play – CTA-Independence was one of only 10 schools in Arizona chosen to participate in the NFL Play 60 Challenge, a six-week program sponsored by the NFL and the American Heart Association to help motivate children to be active for at least one hour every day. Fourth- through sixth-graders participated in the program, keeping a log of their physical activities and participating in lessons that promoted a healthy, active lifestyle. Fifty of the 321 students who participated will be in a special drawing to go on a fieldtrip to the University of Phoenix stadium on May 6 hosted by representatives from the Cardinals Association.
