Perry High hosts wrestling clinic

Wrestlers in seventh through 12th grade are invited to participate in Perry High School’s Wrestling Club clinic conducted by Aaron Simpson from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sat., May 1 at Perry High School.

The hands-on clinic features demonstrations and teaching of technique and conditioning. Check- in begins at 7 a.m. Cost is $30 per person. A full concession stand will be available.

Aaron Simpson is an American mixed martial artist who currently fights at middleweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Before starting his mixed martial arts career, Simpson was a top

wrestler, compiling a 142 to 1 record for Antelope Union High School in Welton, AZ, earning four state wrestling championships and going on to compile 110 wins at Arizona State University and win NCAA All-American status in 1996 and 1998. Sessions will also be offered by Russ Winer, NCAA runner-up and AZ Coaches Hall of Fame member, and Jason Trulson, ASU All-American and two-time AZ HS State runner-up.

Jacobson Jets

Thanks due – Thanks to Jacobson parents and staff for making the Spring Carnival a great success. Going green – Jacobson is going green for 2010, recycling paper products and Capri-Sun pouches. The paper recycling bin, a large green and yellow container labeled “Paper Retriever,” is located on the east side of the school. Recyclable paper products include newspapers, magazines, junk mail, school papers and phone books. The Capri-Sun collection bin is located in the cafeteria.

Navarrete Nighthawks

Book Fair – Navarrete’s Buy One Get One Free Scholastic Book Fair runs through May 7 in the Media Center. Hours are 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 6, and 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 7. Students can shop during their regularly scheduled library time or after school. Talent Show – All are welcome to the Navarrete Talent Show held Thu., May 27 in the Cafeteria. Students in kindergarten through third grade perform at 5:30 p.m. followed by fourth- through sixth-graders at 7 p.m. Class notes – Caterpillars were delivered to the first-grade classrooms as students learn about the life cycle of butterflies, watching it take place before their eyes. High honor – Student of the semester is Nicholas Duhart, who was recognized at a special banquet. Thanks due – The Music Department thanks the PTO for the purchase of an audio enhancement system by Front Row for the stage. The system will enhance the learning of students and allow them to fully hear the information being shared by the teacher. In addition to the teacher’s microphone, the students will have a handheld microphone so they can also be heard. The system can be easily moved for outside use for assemblies and large gatherings. The PTO’s purchase of this system is much appreciated.
