COLLEGE AND CAREER RESOURCE CENTER
Senior Reminders
All seniors should have mailed in their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) forms. May 1 is the national reply date for college acceptances. Make sure your student isn’t celebrating too much just yet – they still have plenty to do before they can declare that high school is over. Remember, colleges can and will rescind acceptances if the student does not perform well this semester.
Please note: Students can turn in a deposit to ONLY ONE college! Do NOT double deposit even though your student hasn’t made up their mind. If colleges find out your student turned in a SIR/deposit to more than one school, they can rescind the acceptance at both.
If your student has been put on a school’s waitlist but is still interested in attending, have them see Ms. Castro for a list of information they should include in their letter to the colleges. There are colleges still accepting applications, so see Ms. Castro if you want more options.
Be sure you send your final transcript (8th semester) to the college you will be attending. You can request it by filling out the transcript request form in the Guidance Office.
Junior Testing Reminders
You still have a couple more chances to take the SAT Reasoning Test/Subject Tests or ACT with writing test this year. All students should take each test at least once.
Juniors should also have their list of 7-8 schools they will be applying to by the end of this school year. If you haven’t started researching colleges, we can schedule an appointment for students with their parents to go over potential colleges once your student attends a College Admissions Workshop. There are still workshops available this spring and summer, so sign up in the CCRC now.

Muth Family Learning Center
Get Organized For Success
The Learning Center director and teacher are often asked by parents, teachers, and counselors to assist students with organization of class materials, shaping study habits and tips, and refining test taking strategies. What is missing from the equation is the student.
When a student is interviewed to set up a support plan, he or she can be in a carpool which makes getting to school early or staying later on certain days a challenge. Students may have plans they prefer at lunchtime (even if strictly social), and after school they may have a host of activity or sport commitments. Therefore making the time for extra help can seem impossible.
Wednesday morning on campus before school is a great time to get organized! Yes, some students select sleeping in, but that extra hour with no classes can really ease time crunches. Taking some lunch time (30 minutes or so) a few times a week can allow for making flash cards, checking Edline (assignments as well as grades and emailing teachers with specific questions), reviewing and highlighting notes, and getting organized for projects. Students need to make time for their academics, especially if they struggle.
Clement Stone, author of Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude, says, “You are the product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objectives. Analyze your life in terms of its environment. Are things around you helping you toward success or are they holding you back?” Be willing to change something in order to become more successful in school and in life.
Invest in your personal growth. Come discover all that the Muth Family Learning Center has to offer you. For more info or to discuss your student’s needs, call (714) 641-3694 to speak with Marilyn Wilson, Director or JoAnn McCune, Teacher and Learning Specialist.
