a few comments from the past year’s survey. I hope we can all work to complete the defini- tions of institution and MAC’s traditions of excellence. One member stated in the survey, “I enjoy
the fitness portion of the club and feel the fitness room staff are outstanding. Would, however, like to see the club improve on welcoming new members by first of all having a time when they are shown the fitness room by the fitness room staff member who will demonstrate how machines operate and help set up a plan without the new member having to ask a lot of questions.”
Our fitness room staff (weight room
instructors or “red shirts”) is available to answer members’ questions about any of the equipment on the floor. They are also avail- able to provide a small workout program for members. You may find staff at the Center Desk in the E&C Room or roaming the base- ment level. That said, MAC’s athletic facilities are vast and can be intimidating. During the next few months the athletic staff is working to create a program to reach out to new members, and help new members become an active part of the community. Another member noted, “I feel like the
club sometimes is so big that there are few opportunities for members to get connected.” There are plenty of opportunities; and, it
was pleasing to see a number of new members completing committee interest forms, as this is a great way to get involved and meet other members. However, not everyone has the time or passion for joining a committee. I challenge the general membership to introduce themselves when they see someone new in a regular group exercise class, at Family Fridays or at another athletic activity. I look forward to seeing you (long-time or new member) around the club this month. WM
