In October 1964, MAC joggers
participated in a seven-club, month-long “cross-country marathon,” the fi rst of many national interclub mileage accumulation contests. As the sport gained national momentum, the club’s fi rst women joggers joined the craze. By 1967, jogging had become the club’s fastest-growing sport. The sport has come a long way since then; for one. Nowadays, MAC-sponsored
unning at MAC has evolved since 1961, when the late Joe Loprinzi started the club’s fi rst jogging program. MAC
running events and activities are orga- nized through the Triathlon & Running Committee. This year, one of the commit- tee’s goals is to re-focus its attention on running. To help kick off the return to this sport, the committee is resurrecting the MAC Mile.
The MAC Mile was fi rst held in 1979 at the Lincoln High School Track. The run was held annually until 1995. In 1980, there were 77 participants, and the numbers grew from there in following years. However, there has now been a 15-year drought and the committee has big plans to revive the run. This year’s MAC Mile is Thursday, May
