ASPECTS OF CONSTRUCTION
Lighthouse work
C HARRIS Engineering & Bridgwater Plant Fabrications has been working on a landmark building in the South West. The business, which offers welding, general engineering and steel stockholder services, has been involved in an access project at the lighthouse in the middle of the beach at Burnham- on-Sea in Somerset. New external platforms, a staircase and handrail, and a gate were created for the lighthouse by Charlie Harris.
‘I designed the items working from old photos because the former structure was made of wood and most of this was missing,’ said Charlie, who also fabricated, galvanised and erected his designs, working as a sub-contractor for Henry W Pollard & Sons Ltd. ‘I spent two-and-a-half days installing the structure and had to work around the tides. I really enjoyed the project.’
