New energy from waste facility
CONSTRUCTION work for a major new energy from waste facility in Exeter is expected to start in September with the plant being operational from 2013. The preferred bidder for the project is TIRU SA, represented in the UK by Cobalt Energy Ltd. Devon County Council has named the French waste
management firm as the company which will design, build and operate the 60,000 tonne energy from waste facility at Matford Industrial Estate. This will deal with waste from Exeter and areas to the south and east of the city. TIRU will work with the county council’s waste
management contractor, Viridor, to agree contract details, with a view to finalising the agreement by the spring. Cobalt Energy managing director Ian Crummack said: ‘TIRU are delighted to be appointed as preferred bidder. We are looking forward to working with Devon County Council and Viridor on this exciting new project for Exeter. ‘TIRU has many plants operating throughout Europe. These facilities have a vital part to play in dealing with the waste that remains after recycling, in a clean, safe and practical way, with the benefit of producing energy too.’
