by Chris White
The Campbell baseball team split its two contests last week, earning a 12-1 mercy victory against Raymond on Saturday, but then dropping a close, eight-inning decision by the score of 7-6 to Farmington on Monday. Both games were played on the Cougars’ home field. Pitcher Zach Saucier threw five solid innings to pick up the win versus Raymond. Meanwhile, the Cougar offense scored six runs in the third inning to break the game open. Catcher Chuck Neild and outfielder

Evan Ordway were steady providers for Campbell at the plate. Neild went 2-3 with a home run and five RBIs, while Ordway was 3-4 with one RBI and three runs scored. After the easy victory, the Cougars battled with Farmington to the very end on the following Monday. A base hit by Ordway in the bottom of the seventh scored Garrett Sahlin to tie up the game and send it to extras. Farmington came up with the winning run in the top of the eighth and shut down Campbell in the bottom half of the

inning, though. Cullan Baker was the starting pitcher for Campbell and accumulated 11 strikeouts in five innings of work. Offensively, there were a number of Cougars who had good days at the plate. Baker went 3-4 with one RBI and two runs scored, and Neild had another good day, going 2-4 with two RBIs. Jacob Lang and Tyler Coughlin also had two hits apiece, with Coughlin adding an RBI as well. After the pair of games, Campbell’s record
now stands at 3-2 as the team prepares to host Epping today at 4 p.m.
Lady Bronco Tennis Remains Perfect
by Sue LaRoche
On Wednesday, April 21, the Broncos managed to defeat Goffstown, 5-4, to move to a perfect 4-0 on the season. Kate Martin, Lahari Venuthurupalli, and Ginal Lupoli, who was playing due to the absence of Cheyenne Tessier, all won in their singles matches. With the score at 4-3 in favor of Goffstown with only second and third doubles remaining, the girls bore down and fought for the victory. The second doubles team of Martin and Lupoli came back from a 6-5 deficit to win, 8-5, tying the match at four

games each. The third doubles team of Yashaswani Mupharti and Venuthurupalli clinched the match with an 8-6 victory. Coach Dave Lelesi was proud of how the team responded to the challenge of having to play up in the line-up and the pressure of the match in order to “come away with a solid win.” He continued, “Goffstown was a good test for our team and this will be a good building block.” The Lady Broncos will host Keene on Wednesday,
May 5.
Alvirne Tennis Improves Season Record
by Sue LaRoche
On Wednesday, April 21, the Broncos traveled to Goffstown and were handed a 7-2 defeat. Evan LaRoche won the lone singles point with an 8-2 victory, while Travis Terrio and Jeremy Poulin won 8-2 in third doubles for the other Bronco point. However, on Thursday, April 22, Alvirne defeated Winnacunnet, 9-0, to bring their season record to 3-2 on the year. Linh Nguyen, Will Livingston, Emre Semen, Shane O’Brien, LaRoche, and Jeremy Poulin all had singles victories, while Nguyen and Livingston, Semen and LaRoche, and Poulin and Travis Terrio all picked up doubles victories. “I was pleased to see the boys come out and play hard after a disappointing loss to Goffstown yesterday,” said Coach Sue LaRoche. The Broncos will host Salem on Monday, May 3, beginning a crucial two-week string of matches for the Broncos.
