Both of Campbell’s track and field teams competed at the Merrimack Valley Invitational in Penacook on Saturday, April 24. The boys’ and girls’ squads received solid performances from their athletes, as 13 Cougars punched their ticket to the Class M State Championships at the end of May. Three of Campbell’s school records were also broken during the meet. Haley Bowen led the Campbell girls with her performance in the field, breaking program records in both the discus and the shot put with distances of 99 feet, 11 inches, and 27 feet, 11-and-one- half inches, respectively. The marks she achieved qualified her for the state meet in both events. Olivia Planty also qualified for states and set a

school record by triple jumping 29 feet, three inches. Steph Loeb added to the team’s success in the field by qualifying for both the pole vault and the high jump. Sam Soulard was an additional qualifier in the pole vault with a vault of six feet, six inches. On the track, Michelle Pomerleau and Ashley Gannon qualified in the 300-meter hurdles, while Hayden Leith qualified in the 100 hurdles. Heather

Geist and Courtney Gannon qualified in the 400 meters as well. On the boys’ side, Anthony Rinaldi, John Cialek, and Evan Leith all qualified for the state championships in two events. For Rinaldi, it was the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as he won both events. Meanwhile, Cialek earned state-qualifying marks in both the 110 and 300 hurdles. Leith also qualified in the 110 hurdles and the high jump, winning the high jump competition with a jump of six feet. Other state qualifiers for the boys’ squad were Spencer Soulard and Geoff Pomerleau. Soulard finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, six inches, while Pomerleau finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.36. With a number of strong performances in their

first invitational, the Cougars will continue to work toward improving their times and marks up until the end of the season. Campbell assistant coach Kelly Fraser said that he expects the success for both teams to continue. “We’re not the biggest school in the state, but we’ll compete with anyone,” Fraser said. “These kids work hard and don’t quit.”
