ASSOCIATION OF

PLAY INDUSTRIES

Playful Places

With the introduction of various design guidance documents supporting the current Playbuilder, Pathfinder investment programme (March 2009 – March 2011, £235 Million) Members have adapted the aspirations of these publications into their designs. This transformation with new thinking by API members and their customers has provided challenging, exciting, play spaces a direct response to ‘KFC criticisms’.

As we enter the final year of the Playbuilder/Pathfinder programme no one can doubt that the industry has risen to the challenges, providing fabulous play spaces in often testing circumstances. The support API Members give to achieve post-consultation final designs exactly as specified, on time and to budget are

API’s Playfair is unique

well summarised by Andrea Winterflood, Play and Open Spaces Development Manager, Thurrock Council, who said:

“With Playbuilder if we had not worked with API Member companies we would never have achieved what we have managed to achieve in the short timescale. We have spent a lot of time talking to the manufacturers who came in at the beginning of Phase 1, we wanted to find out information beyond the sales catalogue. We asked, ‘What can you do for us and what can we do together?’ This was to be a joint project with the companies.

“The first phase we worked closely with five API companies and then one API company for Phase 2. We would not do it any other way. That's because we feel we get best value for money”

This show it is the only outdoor event totally dedicated to the play industry. Launched on 2007 it has gone from strength to strength with almost all of the 2010 stand space for its third year taken up soon after the 2009 show. At PlayFair visitors see and network with all the major outdoor children's play companies at one venue. In addition to this we invite over 200 local school children to test out the latest equipment over the two days, so visitors can see it in action! That brings a welcome bubble of children’s excited laughter to an already friendly trade show. Centrally located at Stoneleigh Park with free parking, visitors can explore the feature area and attend the API’s invaluable education program of seminars.

Well set as a trade fair for the industry and its customers and as a focal point for the growing band of associated organisations and bodies, Playfair is a firm date in the API and API members diary.

PlayFair gives companies the stage to showcase and demonstrate their products and services all in one place each year. Paul Duncan, Angus Council Landscape Technician said, following his visit to Playfair “Superb!

Breath of fresh air to have a show that concentrates on play”.
