West’s Precious Lives Appeal is funding the build of this much- needed third hospice for the
South West of England. ‘The target is to raise £5m. The attendance of the members and guests at SWWIC’s showcase event, Ladies with Influence Lunch 2009, helped support this worthy local charity.
‘Guests enjoyed the fantastic setting and spectacular views of Plymouth Sound from the battlements of the Royal Citadel during the event which was held at the prestigious Officers’ Mess in the stunning historical site, home of the 29 Commando, Royal Artillery Regiment.
‘The guest speaker was Professor Wendy Purcell, Vice- Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Plymouth.’ A cheque for £1,000 was

presented by SWWIC to Judy Pride from CHSW at a special high-tea event held in the historic setting of Saltram House in Plympton, Plymouth. This donation will go
towards the Precious Lives Appeal to build the hospice near St Austell in Cornwall. The tea party, organised by SWWIC, was the latest in a series of events to raise funds for CHSW. Other events have included a construction industry quiz evening and the Ladies with Influence Lunch. Emma Lloyd of CHSW said: ‘The support from SWWIC has been fantastic and their wonderful gift will help continue our support for life- limited children and their
families in the region.’ Lucy George-Foster said: ‘This charity means so much to us. We are delighted to have raised a substantial sum at a time when purse strings are generally being pulled tighter. ‘Our members are construction professionals, working extremely hard at the moment but many also have young families which makes this charity so relevant. We are grateful that they have taken time out to support SWWIC and CHSW.’
