From London to Laindon and another £1000 tip
It’s hungry work, tipping. After a quick stop-off for pie and mash (I gave eels the slip) in the old East End, I continued into Essex territory towards
‘Basildon’ in huge 5ft letters by the side of the A127. A touch of Hollywood glamour never goes amiss.
My mission today was to hunt down my stickered likeness and make the owner a grand richer. I had hoped to bump into Denise Van Outen or Depeche Mode before the deed was done. Alas, it was not my lucky day. It was going to be for one of the town’s hard-working cabbies though. He just didn’t know it yet.
Festival Leisure Park, The Icon, and the 50-metre pool taking shape in Gloucester Park passed by, several times. Everything was going swimmingly as I cruised down Laindon Link and… Eureka. There I was,
across the road and thrust a £1,000 tip through his window.
Shocked? That would be an understatement. “Flipping heck, where did you come from? And that £1000 tip’s for real? Brilliant, thanks! I never thought that sticker would be worth a grand!” beamed Oluwole Olukemi.
