SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD
WATCH
ONE TO
Gawky teen movie with comic book premise starring the effortlessly awkward Michael Cera
WHEN PEOPLE MEET AND RELATIONSHIPS START, previous part-
ners can be problematic, but what would you do if to be with the girl of your dreams you had to defeat her seven super-evil exes? Fans of Edgar Wright’s Spaced, Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz will no doubt have heard of the talented director’s next big project and will need no convincing that this is their fi lm of the summer. With Wright’s Midas touch for popular culture it isn’t hard to see why. Based on the comic book of the same name, Michael Cera (Superbad) stars as Scott Pilgrim and, although the character’s premise feels very typecast, his super- hero battle sequences look very new for an actor stepping out of his comfort zone. Coupling the comic book adaptation with the director’s past, expect Scott Pilgrim Vs The World to crank the geek-o-meter to 11 and leave you feeling energised with videogame visuals and Edgar Wright’s Pop Art style “kaapow!”s behind each punch. Scott Pilgrim will defi nitely be the underdog of the summer blockbusters, but a must-see nevertheless, even it is just for some cathartic ex-bashing.

FILM TRIVIA
DEATH AT A FUNERAL
Black comedy with suitably ironic premise
Chris Rock stars in this remake of the 2007 black comedy where a dysfunctional family unite to attend a funeral and respectful mourning quickly gives way to bitter resentment, scandalous revelations and blackmail attempts. Danny Glover and Martin Lawrence co-star in this potential funny and, with a bit of a lack of comedy this summer, this could be a welcome break from the rainy summer days.

GREENBERG
Ben Stiller gets serious
Greenberg is Ben Stiller’s promising attempt at tackling something altogether more austere than his usual output. Roger Greenberg is a forty-something trying to challenge a midlife crisis by deliberately doing nothing. Although it doesn’t sound like the best of topics, the subject of getting old is tackled sincerely and Ben Stiller seems acutely toned down for the mainstream indie vibes Greenberg has to offer.
