For those of you that are old enough to re- member, Norton Motorcycles are back. For those of you that are not old enough,

you’re in for something really special. Back in 1902, James Lansdowne Nor-

ton started building street bikes. His machines were fast. Fast enough to win the first Isle of Man TT. As time went on,

models like the Big4, Manx, Atlas & Com- mando models were developed, and their racing history is long and colorful, with numerous accolades and podium finish- es. In fact the Manx Norton has won more prestigious races than any other motor- cycle in history. Unfortunately, the motorcycle business

is brutally expensive, especially if one de- signs, develops, engineers and produces a complete motorcycle brand. History has

seen many fine companies disappear into the history books, like Crocker, Excelsior Henderson, Thor and just recently Buell’s name was added to the pages of time. Norton has had its fair share of econom-

ic turbulence, through no fault of their own, and have been resurrected a num- ber of times only to get whacked again by unstable economic times. Enter Stuart Garner, British entrepreneur and bike en- thusiast, who has resurrected the iconic

marque and bought the rights in 2008 to re-launch the brand. For us Canadians, it means that Norton

plans on opening an upscale network of dealers in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Cal- gary, Edmonton & Vancouver. These deal- erships will be fulfilled through the new distributor; Norton Motorcycles (Canada) Ltd., which will be located at 125B Harry Walker Parkway in Newmarket, Ontario.
