he world on Saturday 13th September, 1969: President Nixon was ordering a resumption of B52 bombing raids on South Vietnam, Communist China was moving its nuclear installations in Sinkiang to a safer place in northern Tibet, away from the Soviet border, and scientists were seriously considering the towing of Antarctic icebergs the size of Liverpool to north-western Australia and South America to irrigate the deserts there. That same weekend, over 100 Egyptian aircraft made three sorties to bomb Israeli targets - in revenge for Israel’s recent air, sea and land assaults on the western coast of the Suez Gulf. That Saturday 13th September at around 7:20pm, a Mr Johnson of King Gardens, Mill Street near Liverpool city centre, was watching Percy Thrower on BBC 2’s Gardeners’ World programme, when he
huge oval shaped craft moving silently but swiftly northward through the darkening skies, somewhere over Wirral in his estimation. The unearthly craft was moving at a supersonic velocity but there was no sonic boom. Earlier that Saturday, two women coming out of the Bronte Chippy on Waterloo’s South Road saw three huge ‘classic’
towards Liverpool Bay, covering a nautical mile in a few seconds.
