The TaxiPay system is unique. It allows drivers to add the capability to accept credit and debit card payments in their vehicle by installing a simple application on their own mobile phone. The software also includes a desktop computer version allowing them to take credit card payments for bookings made over the phone.
The TaxiPay system is a software product and so there is no expensive hardware to buy or rent, no minimum transaction fees and no monthly charges. Instead the service is funded exclusively by a surcharge of 6.5% added to each credit card transaction.
Chris Graham from Adelante Software said: “Increasingly, customers, and in particular account customers, want to make payments using their credit or debit card. Drivers can now provide this with no upfront investment. It is rather like a Pay as you go Mobile Phone except the bill is paid entirely by the customer. If the driver elects to charge more than the 6.5% surcharge he even gets to keep the difference! Every driver I have talked to has driven a customer to a cash-dispensing machine at some point because they have not had enough money to cover the fare. This need never happen again.”
