NH Senate Bill on New American College of History and Legal Studies
No minimum.
Passes House Committee Unanimously
submitted by Lynne Snierson
The American College of History and Legal
Studies, which is a revolutionary concept in higher education, took another step forward last week when a legislative committee unanimously passed the bill to confer degree-granting authority on the new school. New Hampshire Senate Bill 312, which earlier
passed the State Senate 24-0, was voted on April 13 by the New Hampshire House Education Committee, and it also passed unanimously by a vote of 15-0. The bill will be taken up by the full New Hampshire House of Representatives next week or the week thereafter, and passage is expected. “We at the ACHLS are so pleased with the recent
unanimous recommendation of approval by the House Education Committee on Senate Bill 312, and we are especially grateful for the sponsors in the Senate and House, including Chairwoman Emma Rous and Representatives Jack Laurent and Claire Clarke, who serve on the House Education Committee,” said Maureen Mooney, the chief operating officer of the college. The American College of History and Legal Studies (ACHLS) is slated to open its doors in Salem in
August. The ACHLS is a senior college offering the junior and senior years of undergraduate education, and will grant bachelor’s degrees with a major in history and legal studies. Moreover, the college will provide guaranteed pathways into the Massachusetts School of Law for qualified students and give them the opportunity to earn their law degree in only six years instead of the traditional seven years. The ACHLS is currently accepting applications
from students who have completed at least two years of college and wish to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The education will be rigorous and graduates will be prepared to compete with anyone in today’s competitive marketplace. The high-quality education will also be very
affordable. Tuition is only $10,000 per year and half-tuition scholarships of $5,000 are available to qualified students. The college will hold classes in the evening at its Salem campus to allow students to balance their lives, should they choose to work while finishing their bachelor’s degree. For more information about this revolutionary concept in higher education, visit www.achls.org, e-mail
info@achls.org, or call 204-3918.
