Toys & Gifts for Kids Annual

Search for new and exciting product

SHOCK reports of toys being recalled after failing safety standards left this mighty international industry reeling last year. There were also allegations that major manufacturers were using child labour in their production processes and concern that some products were ethically and environmentally unsound.

Shoppers became increasingly worried about the safety of products and, added to that, toy

retailers faced a year of difficult trading conditions, poor summer weather and uncertain predictions for future trading. But it was not all doom and gloom in this vibrant and changing marketplace and retailers

prepared to react quickly and respond to new trends have continued to do well. At the head of each section in this year’s Annual we’ve included an inspiring story from those in

the know – retailers who have tackled difficult trading conditions and come out on top. By sourcing just the right gifts for the customer base in their location they have succeeded where

others might have failed. Many have had to adapt to changing market conditions and many have seen their original business change dramatically. The key has been to keep up with new trends and to continually search for new and exciting product. Throughout the gift industry there has been a well-documented move towards eco-friendly

products and increased demand for unique goods with more of a ‘hand-made’ feel. At the same time licensed gifts for kids have enjoyed a boom time and the latest electronic

gizmos remain high on many a youngster’s wish list. To help you stay ahead in the game The Annual is intended to be a useful product finder that should help keep your shelves stocked throughout the year. Keep it handy – the lists of suppliers are invaluable for those moments when you are looking for inspiration and need a helping hand! Good luck for 2008.
