Team name and why: Warmup (red with the team name in large font on the front). The

name of a floor heating business I founded 15 years ago whilst I was supposed to be working in Investment Banking

How did you get into polo? Peter Hunter

[playing member at Guards] suggested Warmup sponsor his polo team. I agreed and when I found out that I was the only spectator at the first match decided the money would be better spent if I was playing. Audiences have now picked up!

Favourite tournament at Guards? We seem

to have had more success at two-goal, winning all but one during the last two years.

Due to the history and the

organisation of the event and the fact we play on The Queen’s Ground with some ceremony, The Major Generals Tournament which is two- goal amateur, can actually be the best weekend of the year for me. Favourite pony? Principe, a dark bay gelding, now aged 10. He was bred in Chile where I bought him. He is fast, strong and frankly wasted on me. I would love to see him played by a much more accomplished player to see what he can do. My dream team? Miguel Novillo Astrada / Juan Carlitos Harriott, Facundo Pieres, Adolfo Cambiaso, Juan Martin Nero. Certainly more than a 40 goal team for an unlimited tournament. For me they are currently the best in the world, as at the end of Argentine Open 2009.

Which Guards tournaments would you most

like to win? Certainly The Queen’s Cup, our top tournament and a big day at Guards for the final. More realistically perhaps, the Archie David eight- goal. We try this one each year and have got close. Favourite hotel? Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, France, or The Carlyle, New York. However, I am not a great fan of hotels and am definitely led on this by my wife.

Favourite restaurant for a special dinner?

Sucre, Buenos Aires. The place for the first date I had with my wife.

Andrew Stimpson

Who would be your ideal dinner party

guests? Winston Churchill, John Churchill, First Duke of Marlborough, 1st Duke of Welllington, Earl of Cardigan, Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar; Alexander the Great, Field Marshal Montgomery. I would sit next to Cardigan and ask for his version of the Charge of the Light Brigade and then ask John Churchill how he won so many battles and scored no losses.

Favourite dish off the Clubhouse

menu: Anything off the bar menu.

Preferred wheels?

Ferrari 550m. The first and last sports car I owned.

52 | GUARDS POLO CLUB OFFICIAL YEARBOOK 2010

Most listened to track on the IPod?

Schubert’s unfinished symphony and anything from Verdi. Other passions? Family, occasional golf and skiing and military history.

Best book or film? Most good biographies

of Napoleon reveal skills, application, luck, determination and profound impact on a huge number of people that are frankly hard to believe.

Most unusual gift ever bought?

Little too shy to answer that one!
