based constructions score highly in the BRE Green Guide and are typically constructed with timber from sustainable sources. The environmental impact of the construction process can
be reduced further using SIP building systems. As an estimated 13 million tonnes of completely unused building materials are discarded as waste every year, CSH credits are awarded for on-site waste management. The off-site manufacture of SIP systems ensure that the building elements are delivered to site as designed, negating the need to make on-site adjustments, which can create unnecessary waste. Moreover, as the panels are supplied ready for immediate installation, the waste generated from packaging is eliminated.
Design Flexibility
As well as helping house builders and developers achieve
levels 3 and above of the Code, SIP-based technology also allows design flexibility. Buildings up to four storeys can be constructed with the panels tailored according to load-bearing and non-load-bearing applications. The speed with which houses can be built with SIP-based
systems enables faster returns to be realised on a development, or faster completion of a family home. Furthermore, houses up to a value of £500,000, built to the highest level of the Code, are currently exempt of stamp duty making them an attractive option for house buyers in the current market conditions. The widespread adoption of SIP-based technology has
streamlined the build process for the house builder, speeding up the overall build time whilst maintaining design flexibility. Moreover, the thermal performance and air-tightness enables house builders to achieve higher levels of the Code giving them a significant advantage over other developers within the competitive housing market.
