Arch Proves Fire Retardants Performance
An audience consisting of local council officials, fire officers and local residents recently witnessed a small scale fire test designed to prove that Arch's fire retardant treatments really do perform as well as claimed when compared to untreated timber. The Midlands council is looking at a new community project in one of their park areas with a large amount of decorative timbers around the outside of the structure. Previously this council has had other timber structures vandalised and burnt and wanted to be convinced about the performance of the fire retardant treatments. Local residents also attended the meeting needing assurance that further arson attempts would meet with some resistance and not endanger their own adjoining properties. Richard Adams, Fire Retardants Manager for Arch, organised and carried out a small fire test which demonstrated just how well Non-Com Exterior fire retardant protection will perform. The point was well made when one member of the audience placed his hand adjacent to the treated test panel and found it hard to believe that he could not feel any heat through the timber surface, allowing his hand to remain in the same position for quite some time. Arch's Dricon fire retardant treatment also proved the point in 2006 saving an iconic timber building, this time owned by Scarborough Council. Vandals attempted to use an accelerant to burn down the newly restored Pagoda in Scarborough's Peasholm Park. The BBA approved fire retardant protection contained the fire and left only light repairs to be made to the area where the accelerant was used.

When you experience a frame made by English
Oak Buildings you
can see and feel the handmade quality and craftsmanship. The warmth and strength of the home grown oak is both powerful and poetic. Our buildings are contemporary, they are light, open and efficient, but they also draw on the integrity of their historical roots. Many of the techniques we use to fabricate our frames are the same as those employed by the medieval carpenters. This is still the best method for creating a beautiful bespoke timber frame building. Please contact us to arrange a visit to our workshops and see an example of our buildings.

Separating Quoins Reliably Secured
were installed. Bonded between every quoin on the front four corners of the two storey property, the concealed HeliBars were bent around the corners and extended 500 mm beyond the end of each quoin to rapidly, reliably and economically secure the structure and stabilise the corners.
