The iconic QEHB has 1,213 beds, the

largest critical care unit in Europe and 30 operating theatres, including seven dedicated day case theatres. Thanks to all this, and more, University Hospital Birmingham is in a position to achieve some of the shortest waiting times in Britain. Around 44 % of in-patient beds are in single rooms, with the rest in four-bed wards. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. Trust Chief Executive Julie Moore said, “Crucially, for the first time all of our services will be under one roof, helping our emergency services and, in particular, providing care precisely when and where it is required. “It is a hospital built to the very latest

Department was the first area officially handed over to the Trust by Consort Healthcare and the early access will allow pre-equipping to be carried out prior to the hospital opening. Paul Sinnott, New Hospitals Project

Programme Advisor, explained, “This part of the new hospital has been almost ready for some time now, we just had to go through the snagging process to ensure everything was 100 % as we wanted it before we gained early access. “Over the next few weeks and months the

teams will be able to carry out tests to ensure all the equipment is installed correctly and working properly before the first patients come through the doors. It’s a gradual process but all part of the intensive and detailed planning that has gone into every stage of this major project. The fact that our partners have delivered on time means that the Trust is on schedule with its move plans.”
