WASYLOWICH
◆ CONTINUED from page 3
“Itwas a completely new thing. I had a few other
people recommend it to me and I thought Iwould give it a go. I really enjoyed it,” saidWasylowich. And the formof exercise that features both physical
and mental disciplines turned out to be justwhat the doctor ordered. “It (back) hasn’t felt this good in a long time,” said
Wasylowich, adding his newfound exercise will take a back seat as he prepares to hit the Canadian Tour trail this summer. “But I’ll probably try and do a little bit of it as the
season goes on because there’s going to be more travel and the back is going to take a bit more of a beating.” With a healed back,Wasylowich also heads into the
2010 golf season with a different mindset. “To be honest, it hasn’t felt like I’ve played like myself in
a tournament for probably about a year and a half. I’ve been forcing it and trying too hard. “It’s probably the pressure to perform, expectations I’ve
probably set maybe a bit too high formy first couple of events. I got behind the eight-ball and not doing aswell as I thought I could do and tried a little harder and finally at the end you’re so stressed out about your golf that you
forget aboutwhat you’re doing out there. “There are a few areas ofmy game I want to improve
which I think will help. I felt I played prettywell in some events, but I didn’t score aswell as I felt like I played. (I’m) trying to relax and not put toomuch pressure onmyself, just getting out ofmy own way and realizing that I can play better than I’ve played and let myself play thatway.” While he concedes watching a perfectly-struck tee shot
sail 300 yards down the fairway is a nice sight, he has been spending a lot of time around the practice green, working on chip shots rather than tee shots. “It’s the probably themost overlooked part of golf in
Canada in general,” he said of the short game. “We just go straight to the range instead ofmaybe chipping and putting instead of going and hitting balls an hour before we play. It’s so much more important, butwe allwant to see the ball fly far and straight.” Not thatWasylowich’s long game is suffering, however. “It’s going to be good,” he said. “I switched back to a
Titleist withmy driver, which I had been playing for six years previous to last year and I struggled last year, but I’mdefinitely looking to get this one dialed in for this year.” As the Canadian Tour winds its way throughMexico
with the next stop slated for April 19 at the Riviera Nayarit Classic inNayarit,Wasylowich continues to hone his game in Saskatchewan, picking his time when he feels ready to join the tour. “If I can get what Iwant done in Saskatoon in the next few days I’mprobably going to head down to that one,”
