are recognised on a commemorative plaque. Both projects are symbolic of the Rotary motto ‘Service above Self’ and are testament to what can be achieved by good leadership, participation, a small progressive Rotary club (20 members) and the fostering of goodwill in the community by Rotarians. It is also entirely appropriate and well earned that
at the end of 2009 Rotarian Ken Morgan, for his work on these projects and his consistent contributions to Rotary, was presented with a Paul Harris sapphire to add to the Paul Harris Fellowship which he had previously earned.
from a local oil refinery, and bricklayers, welders, electricians and a host of other tradesmen donated their time and skills. Individuals in the community and Rotarians also gave cash donations and as a result, the magnificent facility was opened by Tim Burton, Head of Group Operations at the Welsh Rugby Union. Now wheelchair users can gain access to the stand without leaving their wheelchairs. Te project has been praised widely in the community and, of course, by Narberth Rugby Club. Rotary can be justifiably proud of the excellent facility (pictured above). Sadly, Rotarian Mike died at the end of 2009. Later in 2009 the Rotarians decided that since the
Rotary Club covered Whitland as well as Narberth it should provide a similar facility at Whitland Rugby Club. Undaunted, Rotarian Ken set about this new task with equal enthusiasm. Tis time the project involved a glass shelter erected on a vantage point high on the bank immediately adjacent to the touchline and commanding an uninterrupted view of the pitch. Access is by tarmac and cement path and there is ample parking for supporters. Te shelter will hold up to 12 wheelchairs with occupants and carers. Again, Ken enlisted the help of local builders and businesses. Together with the magnificent physical and cash support of Rotarians the facility was presented to Whitland Rugby Club. Tim Burton of the Welsh Rugby Union did the honours once more and cut the ribbon – appropriately during the Derby game between Whitland and Narberth. In both cases contributions from donors and sponsors
