and Pat live “a blessed life”, Emmitt says they both receive the ultimate satisfaction helping to make a difference in the life of a child. Emmitt will be hosting his first Charity/ Celebrity golf tournament in May, with a cast of participants that will make your head swirl. More on that next month in Scoreboard Monthly.

No doubt Emmitt, and football fans across America, will have their eyes glued to their television screens on April 22-24. ESPN will again host the three day NFL Draft which kicks off in primetime on Thursday night, April 22, at 6:30pm Texas time. The world famous Rockettes will step aside to allow the league to take care of its business at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones won’t know the Cowboys official schedule for the upcoming 2010 season until just prior to that, but he’ll still be branding the Cowboys on the local speaking circuit before departing for NYC.

Jones will be the

t’s that time of year again, when every team in Major League Baseball is undefeated and tied for first. It won’t last long, but, it’s fun to think about, “what if?” For the Texas Rangers, it marks the 50th anniversary since the club was founded. After the

original Washington Senators left town for Minnesota and became the Minnesota Twins, a new Senators team was born in the nation’s capital in 1961. They would remain on the east coast for the next decade before moving to Arlington in time for Opening Day 1972, where they would become the Rangers. They’ve been there ever since, although Texas remains one of only three teams in Major League Baseball never to have reached the World Series. Maybe it’s the name “Washington” that is the nemesis. Because the three teams still looking to make it to the Series are the Rangers (who were founded in Washington), the Seattle Mariners (who play in the state of Washington), and the Washington Nationals (originally established as the Montreal Expos in 1969). Whatever the reason, Rangers fans near and far are hopeful 2010 is finally the year they get to play deep into the month of October.

Toronto Blue Jays All-Star centerfielder, Vernon Wells, hasn’t had much in the way of rest in the off-season. The Arlington Bowie High School product has been busy with wife,

It’s all part

of an initiative of the Vernon Wells Perfect 10 Foundation, established in 2009, to assist those in need. Construction will begin on two North Texas quadraplex homes for single mothers and their children in need of emotional and financial support. The April 6th groundbreaking date is in the midst of the Rangers/Blue Jays season opening series at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Soon to officially be an inductee in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith and wife, Pat, have also been most busy, establishing the Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities. The mission of the charitable organization is to provide unique experiences and educational opportunities for at-risk children to help them discover and achieve their dreams. On a recent visit to Clay Academy in Dallas, Emmitt was most taken back by the motivation and initiative of the students’ desire to learn. When they mentioned their interest to go to New York City, Emmitt was so moved by their thirst for knowledge that, on the spot, he said “we’re going”. He paid for the entire ninth grade class to spend three days in the Big Apple. In addition, he has underwritten the tuition for 23 other college-age students to attend the four-year university of their choice in conjunction with the Foundation for Excellence in Education. keynote speaker at the SMU Athletic Forum Luncheon Series on Tuesday, April 20, at the Hilton Anatole. That evening he’ll travel to his palatial 1.2 billion dollar stadium in Arlington where the National Football Foundation Gridiron Club of Dallas will present him with the Distinguished Texan Award at the second annual Scholar-Athlete Presentation Banquet. The award, the group’s most prestigious, pays tribute to an outstanding person who has maintained a lifetime of interest in the game of football and has been a significant contributor to the betterment of the game. Former Baylor head coach and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Grant Teaff, who currently serves as the executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, was the recipient of the award in 2009. SMU Head Football Coach June Jones will serve as the event’s keynote speaker.

In case you

might have missed it, Jerry Jones has been nominated as Sports Executive of the Year by the Sports Business Journal and the Sports Business Daily. In addition, the new Cowboys Stadium has been nominated as the 2010 Sports Facility of the Year. The Cowboys home is up against Yankee Stadium, The Staples Center in LA and Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.

While there no doubt will be a record turnout of media for this year ’s Masters Golf Tournament due to the return of Tiger Woods to competitive golf, there is no question that Texas golfers will again lead the way in raising money for worthy causes. “Mr. Cowboy” Page 1  |  Page 2  |  Page 3  |  Page 4  |  Page 5  |  Page 6  |  Page 7  |  Page 8  |  Page 9  |  Page 10  |  Page 11  |  Page 12  |  Page 13  |  Page 14  |  Page 15  |  Page 16  |  Page 17  |  Page 18  |  Page 19  |  Page 20  |  Page 21  |  Page 22  |  Page 23  |  Page 24  |  Page 25  |  Page 26  |  Page 27  |  Page 28  |  Page 29  |  Page 30  |  Page 31  |  Page 32  |  Page 33  |  Page 34  |  Page 35  |  Page 36  |  Page 37  |  Page 38  |  Page 39  |  Page 40  |  Page 41  |  Page 42  |  Page 43  |  Page 44  |  Page 45  |  Page 46  |  Page 47  |  Page 48  |  Page 49  |  Page 50  |  Page 51  |  Page 52  |  Page 53  |  Page 54  |  Page 55  |  Page 56  |  Page 57  |  Page 58  |  Page 59  |  Page 60  |  Page 61  |  Page 62  |  Page 63  |  Page 64  |  Page 65  |  Page 66  |  Page 67  |  Page 68  |  Page 69  |  Page 70  |  Page 71  |  Page 72  |  Page 73  |  Page 74  |  Page 75  |  Page 76  |  Page 77  |  Page 78  |  Page 79  |  Page 80  |  Page 81  |  Page 82  |  Page 83  |  Page 84
