If you have never exercised in your life, now is not too late to start! Research of 2,205 Swedish men who were studied for more than 20 years showed that if people over 50 start exercising, the beneficial effects can be seen within 10 years. These effects can lead to a decrease in premature death. This is the first time that research has shown that older people can benefit from increasing their physical activity. Activities can stem from three hours of sports or heavy gardening each week to taking walks and cycling. After 10 years of exercise, those who began exercising moderately at 50 showed similar death rates to people who exercised heavily generally.

We all know that dogs shouldn’t eat chocolate, but now there are other culprits to look out for as well. Wild mushrooms growing in some Chicago neighborhoods have allegedly proven deadly for at least one dog. Doctors say that some of these mushrooms can cause kidney and liver damage that may be reversible ... but sometimes it’s not. The mushrooms aren’t only harmful to pets; they may also prove to be harmful towards humans, especially children who may find one growing in the backyard. While there is no harm in picking up wild mushrooms that tend to grow in a variety of areas around Chicagoland, they should not be eaten.
